Industrial trap metal duo A PLACE TO KILL, featuring Filter’s Richard Patrick and Jim Louvau, vocalist of There Is No Us, unleash their explosive new single and video, “Ugly World.” The track is the second single from their forthcoming EP, APTK2, arriving Nov. 13 via No Pulse Records.

Ugly World: A relentless collision of crushing industrial rhythms, distorted electronics, abrasive guitars and trap-influenced production, this track finds A Place To Kill at their most confrontational. Fueled by frustration, anger and disillusionment with a world consumed by greed, corruption and hypocrisy, the track delivers a blistering commentary on modern society, wrapped in the duo’s signature dark, cinematic sound.

Driven by the distinctive vocal interplay between Patrick and Louvau, “Ugly World” moves between brooding tension and explosive aggression. Louvau’s visceral delivery and Patrick’s unmistakable vocal presence amplify the song’s sense of urgency, transforming its raw frustration into an unflinching industrial metal anthem.

“Ugly World was the first song we carved out when the official APTK2 recording session started over the summer,” said Louvau. “In true APTK fashion I listened to the track night before and I started writing lyrics for what became the chorus. The way we attack this project has always been a fly by the seat of your pants creative experience that isn’t a typical way of writing and recording and after we completed the song that same day I knew that we were still capable of working this way which is exciting and terrifying at the exact same time.”

With its searing refrain, “This ugly world, why you gotta be so goddamn cold / The future is bought and sold,” the song captures a collective sense of outrage and alienation. Its uncompromising lyrics confront the erosion of trust, unchecked greed and the demand for allegiance from those in power, channeling that frustration into a defiant call for resistance.

Dark, hostile and unapologetic, “Ugly World” pushes A Place To Kill further into their own sonic territory, merging the raw intensity of industrial metal with contemporary electronic production. Heavy enough for metal audiences, electronic enough for the industrial underground and unmistakably A Place To Kill, the track rejects nostalgia in favor of something urgent, volatile and distinctly modern.

The accompanying music video brings the track’s aggressive energy and unsettling atmosphere into a visual dimension, further establishing the duo’s uncompromising creative identity.

Following the release of their first APTK2 single, “Keep My Name Out Of Your Mouth,” “Ugly World” offers another powerful preview of the forthcoming EP and the duo’s instinctive, no-rules approach to writing and recording.

APTK, the debut seven-song EP, produced by Patrick in his Los Angeles studio, ranks among the most intense industrial releases in years, anchored by the explosive lead single “Jet Engine” and a dynamic music video that thrives on tension, chaos and visual unpredictability. Patrick and Louvau share vocal duties across tracks that break free from the standard structures of Filter and There Is No Us, crafting a new sound that is fierce, untamed, and future-focused.

“When I started this band, the music was meant as a tribute to the raw hostility of humanity. It was heavy, confrontational, and honest,” recalled Patrick. “When it came time to find the right voice, I thought back to working with Jim Louvau on the FILTER track ‘Murica.’ His voice was absolutely explosive — a pure noise machine with power and presence that I couldn’t ignore. That’s when I knew I had to ask him to front A Place To Kill.”

Louvau added, “I originally saw Filter live when I was in high school during the Short Bus era, and I immediately became a fan of Richard’s voice. He had such a gnarly scream, but every word was crystal clear.”

The duo first crossed paths in 2008, when Louvau interviewed Patrick before a Filter show. Patrick later caught Louvau’s blistering performance at There Is No Us’ second-ever show at The Roxy years later. “We would always talk about starting a project together whenever we spoke or saw each other,” Louvau said. 

Louvau eventually provided backing vocals on Filter’s “Murica” in 2020, and now the pair fully unleashes their shared vision on a record that isn’t about the past — it’s about the future.

Each track blends crushing electronics, trap-influenced rhythms, and raw dual vocals that alternate between searing aggression and controlled menace. This is music designed to hit hard, provoke, and challenge expectations — eschewing conventional song structures in favor of a jagged, forward-looking soundscape forged in aggression and engineered for the future.

“The creation of these songs was such an organic process because we had so much inspiration simply from existing in a world filled with uncertainty,” Louvau explained.

“This world has turned into a nightmarish hellscape,” declared Patrick. “We figured if it’s going to burn this bright and this loud, it deserves a soundtrack to match. That’s why Jim and I created A Place To Kill — music for the chaos we’re living in.”
